Charitable Trust

Ffct Logo FinalThe Academy has long believed that in addition to the good work the individual members of the Academy perform and the services that the Academy itself provides, nevertheless, we should be “giving back” to those who need our help. This would extend to all aspects of family formation. It was with this in mind that we formed the Family Formation Charitable Trust, and it was only appropriate that we announce it at our 25th Anniversary Conference, the theme of which was “Looking Forward; Giving Back.” Accordingly, the Family Formation Charitable Trust, a 501C(3) organization, was formed to assist those in their efforts to form their families and to help children.

The initial focus has been to raise funds so that either individual programs or families and/or children may benefit directly, and to do so either directly or in conjunction with other non-profit charitable organizations. There are many children, individuals, and families that are in need of assistance and the purpose of the Trust is to help them. This could involve assisting families with the cost of adoption and/or assisted reproductive technology procedures, or children who are in need of placement and who may be difficult to place, or very importantly, children who have been languishing in the foster care system. By helping these families and the children, we are not just improving their lives but improving our society.

The Family Formation Charitable Trust is pleased to announce that an additional $8,000 in grants were awarded in the September 2015 funding cycle to several families and one 501c3 organization. We are targeting another $8,000 in grants in the Spring of 2016 as the annual conference in Denver approaches. Your generosity has made all this possible. On behalf of the Trust Board and the people we serve, we thank you for your continued support of our important mission.

This is a significant increase from the first grant cycle when a $2,000 grant was awarded to a family pursing an adoption placement. We are pleased to announce that adoption was recently completed. The child is in a wonderful home with grateful new parents. A short video of the family expressing their appreciation was shown at the St. Pete conference in April. All of you made this possible. Thank you for purchasing raffle tickets, making unrestricted gifts and purchasing gifts and services at the Silent Auction.

We are not done. Moving towards the end of the year, it is never too early to plan for your personal charitable contributions. Please also consider a contribution to the Trust if you want to make a donation in memory of an individual or to honor and recognize another person or organization. In each of these events, you will receive a gift letter to substantiate your tax deduction. If you give, we give back.

New programs and offerings are being developed as the Trust continues to grow. The Trust is grateful for the many suggestions and ideas the Academy membership and others have offered as we continue our mission. Everyone is encouraged to bring us your ideas. As a volunteer organization, all are welcome and all may participate. Please feel free to contact Chairperson Genie Gillespie (IL) or any of our Board members and share your ideas and support.
